On-Going Activities
Lunch Meeting: every 4th Thursday at noon at Friendship Hall.
Helping Hands Ministry: Dedicated to helping members of First United Methodist Church of Dunnellon in completing jobs around their house for which they do not have the physical and or financial resources to complete without the help of the Men’s ministry. The Ministry is specially aimed at single moms, physically challenged, widows, and the elderly.
Food-4-Kids School Backpack Project: Sponsored by “Men on a Mission”. The purpose of Food-4-Kids is to provide food to children at Dunnellon and Romeo Elementary Schools and Dunnellon Middle School who do not have anything to eat on the week-end. Volunteers pack and deliver the backpacks to the schools. Each backpack is filled with enough food for the student and all of his/her school age siblings. Initially, in the beginning of 2006 we were serving 45 kids. Today we are serving 105. Our goal is to serve 500 kids. Five Dunnellon churches – First United Methodist Church of Dunnellon, Holy Faith Episcopal, House of Jacob, Springs Presbyterian Church, and Romeo Baptist Church – have united in this effort.
Concerned Citizens for Chatmire: The United Methodist Men provide support to an after school tutorial program on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for pre-kindergarten thru 6th grade students. Chatmire also sponsors a summer program in June with an academics offering in the morning for preK thru 6th grade and recreation offerings for preK thru 12th grade in the afternoon.
Adopt A Highway: The 3rd Saturday of every other month is the time the United Methodist Men gather at the church to clean up a designated stretch of state road 40. (odd number months: Jan, Mar, May, July, Sept, Nov). This is our contribution to the larger Adopt a Highway program sponsored by the Veterans of Chatmire Association.
Church Cleanup: The 1st Thursday of every month is dedicated to cleaning up the church grounds to maintain its pristine appearance.
Men On A Mission
Men on a Mission is a vibrant group of men who meet twice a month to study material that will help us to be better Christians, men, husbands, fathers, brothers, neighbors, friends, and church members. Our goal is to grow everyday to be more like Christ! We invite you to visit us on any 2nd or 4th Monday at 8 am in Friendship Hall. Currently, our main project is Food-4-Kids.
